Wescor Electrical has successfully installed the first Pratt and Whitney ORC power system in Australia. This unit was installed at a sawmill in Queensland where it was configured in parallel to three existing timber drying kilns.
Sawdust is burnt inside an on-site furnace where the heat from combustion is transferred into an oil where it can then be easily transported. This hot oil is then pumped around to the kilns and to the new generator. A detailed analysis was undertaken and it was decided that enough heating capacity existed for the kilns and for the new generator. So an idea became reality.
